About GRFFNL
The Greek Film Festival in the Netherlands (GRFFNL) is a new cultural initiative dedicated to showcasing Greek cinema to audiences in the Netherlands. The festival presents a curated selection of films by Greek directors, including fiction, documentaries, and other cinematic forms that reflect the diversity and creativity of Greek storytelling.
The first edition of GRFFNL aims to establish a platform for cultural exchange through cinema, connecting filmmakers, film professionals, and audiences from Greece and the Netherlands. By presenting both contemporary and classic works, the festival highlights the evolving voice of Greek cinema and its place within an international context.
Taking place in Amsterdam, GRFFNL offers film screenings alongside discussions and special events that invite audiences to engage with cinema beyond the screen. The festival is open to all film lovers and does not require prior knowledge of Greek language or culture. Films are presented in Greek or English with English subtitles.
GRFFNL is organised by a dedicated team with a passion for film, culture, and cross-cultural dialogue, and aspires to grow into a recurring meeting point for Greek cinema in the Netherlands.
Meet the Team
The Greek Film Festival in the Netherlands (GRFFNL) started from the initiative of Dimitra and Nickie, two Greek professionals in the film industry.
Dimitra Alexiou
Dimitra is a film composer and film programmer based in Amsterdam, NL. She has made original music for numerous short films; fiction, documentary and animation. She has a passion for film and has been a programmer for Filmhuis Cavia, focusing on screening Greek films, but also documentaries and experimental blocks. Moreover, she has volunteered at many festivals in the Netherlands, including IDFA, IFFR, Imagine Fantastic Film Festival, and others. She is member of the board of Pop Up Cinema in Tilburg.
Having grown up in Athens, Greece, she has a deep understanding for Greek cinema and its tradition, as well as the patterns it follows. The idea for GRFFNL came from the need to explore more of Greek cinema, but also to spread the love for it internationally.
Nickie Katrantsioti
Nickie is a festival producer based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. She holds a BA in English Literature from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Research Master’s degree in Media, Art, and Performance Studies from Utrecht University. During her studies, she interned at IMPAKT, a media arts center in Utrecht, where she developed a strong interest in festival production and archive curation.
She has since worked with several film festivals in Amsterdam, including IDFA, Roze Filmdagen, and Kaboom Animation Festival. Born and raised in Thessaloniki, Nickie grew up immersed in film festivals and cultural events, and discovered her passion for event production through volunteering during her student years. Together with Dimitra, she co-founded GRFFNL, combining their strengths in film programming and festival production.
